Facing my fears

Lucy Robinson. Jewellery - The Printsmith

Firstly: Welcome to the final blog post of my little tour for The Unfinished Symphony of You and Me. It’s been a WEEK! Thanks to Victoria, Laura, Eve, Kirsty, Chloe and Kevin  for having me. So. My final post. I wrote it last Friday so it’d be all ready for posting today. I thought I’d nailed it. Only I hadn’t. The post was meant to act as a finale to my blog tour, in which me and my book characters talked about things they were afraid of. Today there was going to be a video of me facing a fear … Continue reading

Life I Love: the best dessert

 20140310-182854.jpg

I spent a long time not eating sugar because I was suffering the misapprehension that I couldn’t handle it. Of course I could. I can handle anything. I have the POWER! I AM BASICALLY GOD! I am not God. I’ve not even met him. Or her. Or them. Anyway. I’m still exploring the world of dessert, which is such a joy. There’s something a bit shit (as in, monumentally shit) about being the weird one staring tight-lipped at their empty plate at a dinner party while everyone else chows down on some lovely crumble or tart or pie. Or, for … Continue reading

Wot I loved today: Plain English

 Lucy Robinson - COPYRIGHT va-va-vacation.com

I was working at the co-op earlier. I write there a couple of days a week so I don’t go mad and feral working on my own. This co-op is also the place I recently did a Spanish cookery course; some of you will have seen my surprisingly impressive creations on my FB page. However, while I was pretty bueno in the cooking department, I was unforgivably shite at speaking Spanish. Which is embarrassing, because I lived and travelled in South America for a VERY long time. At the end of the final class, I said to Eli, our teacher, … Continue reading

Wot I loved today: The Friendship Holiday

 20140219-124109.jpg

As those of you who follow me on facebook will know, I’ve been on holiday in the North of England for the last week. It’s been absolutely lovely, in spite of biblical weather and a flat tyre and my extremely troublesome bottom. (My coccyx has gone mad; it’s not a fart-related issue.) The Man and I have lots of lovely friends in the northern climes and have spent years saying, Yes, Yes, We will come and stay with you and it’ll be GREAT. And then we never go and stay with them. Largely because the North is not really en … Continue reading

Breakups: the end of the world…?

 © Eva Bell Photography

Morning friends. Today I’m on Woman’s Hour talking about breakups. Is it possible to stay friends with your ex’s friends? Or indeed their family? Come over to the show and tell us what you think. In honour of the programme I’m re-posting a blog I wrote in December 2009 about my own awful breakup. Does this ring any bells? Or was I just insane….?   WRITTEN DECEMBER 2009 for MARIECLAIRE.CO.UK Lucy Robinson: A Soul MOT in 365 Days A year ago today I caught a bus to Brick Lane. My mission was to buy some vintage shoes to complete a … Continue reading

Tips for Bad Writing Days #5: Get someone else to write the damn thing

Lucy Robinson on the tube. Photo: Beagleybrown.com

When I have a Bad Writing Day – and let me tell you that I have them ALL OF THE TIME – I can go barmy very quickly. Barminess is not fertile ground for good writing. So I’m offering a series of tips from my own personal experience to help you with your Bad Writing Days. Take what you like and leave the rest… Tip #5: GET SOMEONE ELSE TO WRITE THE DAMN THING. Here is what my head says when I hit on problems with my novels: Oh God oh God oh GOD, I’m doomed. My agent is on … Continue reading

Art n blogs

through the window - COPYRIGHT PHILLY RUTT

One of the nicest things about having a blog is having readers. (As any blogger will know, readers are by no means a given.) And an even nicer thing is getting to know some of them. In the early days of my blog, when I was internet dating furiously and generally behaving like a twat, I developed a faithful core of readers who were there with me, week in, week out, sharing my (small percentage of) highs and (considerable percentage of) lows. I have a date with one of them in a cheese shop in Cardiff soon. (A girl date, … Continue reading

Land of hope and glory

Oh good god above. I LOVE ENGLAND! I’m afraid this is a bit of a whistlestop blog – more soon – but for now I wanted to make a brief list of the things I have loved so far: 1. Heathrow Airport. Things actually work there! And it’s, like, calm and organised.  And my family were there. And The Man. AND THERE WAS A MARKS AND SPENCER SIMPLY FOOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD BOXES OF DELICIOUS HEALTHY FOOD OH MY GOD. You’d understand if you’d spent a year in a country that subsists on fatty meat, refined carbs and sugar. 2. My family. They are brilliant. They speak English … Continue reading
