Vintage Robinson in Argentina: Robinson gets a date (she thinks)

 Copyright EVA BELL PHOTOGRAPHY

Morning all! HAPPY MONDAY. So, I explained here why I’m not doing my Life I Love blog for a short while. Here, following on from where I left off on Friday, is my third Argentina blog. It’s the one where I sort of got a date with a bloke called Paul. http://lucy-robinson.co.uk/romance-fewer-options/

Life I Love: Vintage Robinson in Argentina

 photo (56)

I’m struggling to find time to upload my daily Life I Love blog at the moment. I’m still making sure I take note of all the things that make me smile, but the small matter of having, erm, FIFTY THOUSAND WORDS TO WRITE IN SIX WEEKS, plus a fuck-load of quite serious plot wrangling, is impeding my ability to share such moments with you. Sorry. So, in the interim, I have decided to introduce you (or re-introduce the die-hards amongst you) to my early blogs from Argentina. I lived there for a year starting June 2010 and had the very … Continue reading

ARM! ARM! ARM!

I do not have much experience of spa days and beauty treatments. Especially facials. Facials, for reasons as yet unclear, have always alarmed me. I had my first ever facial in 2011 when my friend Marge came to visit me in Argentina. In an act of quite unbelievable kindness she booked my scuzzy backpacker’s arse into a five star hotel as a 31st birthday present and paid for us to have – amongst many other things – a super-luxury facial. You can read more about our escapades – because many of them were very funny – here and here and … Continue reading

Meaty mornings

I took The Man to meet Kieran, my old housemate. I love Kieran; I used to live with him. I love The Man, I now live with him. I thought we could share some chat about what a great person I am to live with: kind, funny, tidy: the sort of roomie you’d be really proud to introduce to your friends and family. The waiter came over to take our order. It was breakfast; we were in a French restaurant. He spoke to us in French because no one in that restaurant ever talks to you in English. It wouldn’t … Continue reading

My chaos is going global once more

Hi there friends! So, how do you like this picture of my ‘wardrobe’ on the floor of The Man’s bedroom? This is basically what my life has looked like since I got back from Argentina. It’s like a casserole made of clothing. It’s like the muck heap at my Mum’s stables. (Actually, that’s balls. My mum’s muck heap is significantly more tidy and organised than this rotten mess.) Most of my friends presume that I live in a state of chaos and disorder. This, I imagine, is because they have identified the chaos and disorder that exists in my head and have … Continue reading

The end of an affair

I had the unexpected pleasure, last week, of witnessing someone actually crying with laughter while reading my blog. I’m not going to lie, I nearly passed out with delight. Today’s entry, however, is probably not going to make anyone cry with laughter; in fact the only person crying is probably me. The reason for this is that – deep breath – I’m on my way home. I’m about three hours in to a twenty-one hour bus journey back to Buenos Aires. A couple of days there tying up loose ends and then I’m done. I fly back to London on … Continue reading

Happy anniversary, dear

Six months ago today I was at my fave farmers’ market in Buenos Aires, trying to remember the Spanish word for beetroot. I couldn’t remember it for love nor money but fortunately I was spared embarrassment because my phone started ringing in my pocket. I waved it at the vegetable women to indicate that I was leaving not because I was a knob who turned up at farmers’ markets without the correct vocabulary but because I was very important and popular and had lots of people to talk to. It goes without saying that she didn’t buy it. Red-faced, I … Continue reading

Snozzcumbers and lunar craters

Sorry for the silence, friends. As you may have noticed the blogs section has gone all posh and I got a bit scared of trying to upload a new one. Wazzock. So, since my last, somewhat doom-filled blog (which appears to have disappeared, so you can find it here for the time being, and the one before it here) I have managed to pick myself up slightly. But I’m afraid I am still convinced that I shall die alone with a tumbler of cheap whiskey in one hand and a tin of catfood in the other. Reader Gareth kindly gave substance to this … Continue reading

Pity Party

I have been rotting in bed with this tropical malady for seven long days now. I am not even a little bit better and my self-pity is becoming unmanageable. I had a Skype chat earlier with a London friend and, rather embarrassingly, it ended in tears. She said “Ok well I’d better go, Robinson,” and I promptly started crying and said in a tiny, pathetic voice, “No, please don’t leave me, I’m so lonely, can’t we talk a bit longer?” Oh dear. C’mon now, Robinson, things really aren’t that bad. This is the problem with being ill: too much time … Continue reading
